Glion and the lake

Bulle & Glion Region - Les Roches Gruyère - LRG University of Applied Sciences

GIHE REGION

Glion Institute of Higher Education* (GIHE) sits perched above Montreux on a cliff overlooking the Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) and the opposite shores of France. Students choosing the "International Hospitality Management" pathway will spend a semester at our sister school on the GIHE campus for the preparatory semester.

With its exceptional situation, GIHE offers a plummeting view of Montreux and breathtaking sunset colours in the evening.

Glion is just above Montreux, a medium-sized town at the edge of the lake. It is a very well known tourist destination attracting many people from around the world with its unique charms. Every summer, the world renowned ‘Montreux Jazz Festival’ attracts Jazz lovers and performers from all around the world. One of the biggest Christmas markets in Europe opens up for a month every winter to add a touch of holiday spice to this town.

From the campus, you can see famous Château de Chillion (Chillon Castle) which was built in 1160. This castle gained its fame thanks to many famous writers and poets like Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Shelley, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas and Lord Byron- the writer of ‘The Prisoner of Chillon’.

With its mild microclimate and nature, this region has been a haven and workplace for many artists who got inspired. For example, the group Queen had their studio here and Freddy Mercury worked on their final album ‘Made in Heaven’ in Montreux.
If you wish to have more ‘City-life’ on weekends, you can hop on a train to Lausanne, the capital city of Olympics. The 20 minute train ride takes you on a scenic journey along the lake and ‘world heritage’ vineyard into this fascinating city, where you can find many restaurants, bars and shops.

GIHE is our sister school , which is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in the USA and is not part of LRG University of Applied Sciences. It is the location where the non degree preparatory semester is delivered for the "International Hospitality Management" specialisation.

BULLE CAMPUS & REGION

Bulle is located in the Gruyère region of the French speaking part of the canton of Fribourg. The city of Bulle is a peaceful, yet modern, economic centre where a variety of shops, museums, restaurants and clubs are open for amusement and practical resources. A few kilometres away from Bulle, the medieval village of Gruyères attracts thousands of tourists who come to admire the St-Germain castle and visit the strange fantasy-Art universe of the HR Giger museum (the creator of the beast "Alien"). Traditional meals and dishes such as cheese fondue and Gruyères double cream desserts are a must for those seeking a taste of the delicious Swiss culinary heritage.

For more entertainment, the city of Fribourg is close at hand and offers a wider range of leisure activities. As a major university town linking the French and German speaking parts of the country, Fribourg offers a variety of festivals, concerts, clubs, and restaurants for fun outings.
